C-600 Chiming Movement Clocks: September 20-October 08, 2010 PDF Print E-mail

This course covers service to the chiming clock and its control systems. In addition, other topics include levers and mechanical advantage; weight drive; mainspring barrels; chime tunes and their sequences, chime and strike hammers; chime tubes, gongs, and bells; the auto correction feature for chime sequences; and the methods for controlling the chime function. Because the methods for controlling the chimes and the auto correction are seemingly endless, our main objective is to disassemble and correctly reassemble and adjust as many different chime movements as possible. After completing this course, the student should be able to repair and adjust rack and snail strike works; assemble, correctly synchronize, and adjust a variety of chime movements; synchronize and adjust an unfamiliar chime movement; demonstrate a working knowledge of levers and mechanical advantage; recognize several different chime tunes and correctly synchronize them; and repair and adjust the chime and strike hammers for the proper sound.
