This course is a study of the lever escapements, their construction and repair. Topics include the various forms of lever escapement used in clocks, hairsprings, jewels, staffs, and other aspects of this versatile escapement. After completing the course, the student should be able to identify the type of escapement; name the parts of the escapement; use the proper tools for fine escapement work; disassemble and service the escapement; reassemble and adjust the escapement; properly oil the escapement; fabricate tools to facilitate hairspring work; straighten bent hairsprings; and regulate clocks with balance wheels.
