This course covers general repair and identification of wooden clock movements. Topics include cleaning, bushing, pivot problems, tooth replacement, and escapement repairs and adjustment. The fabrication of replacement wheels and pinions is also covered. After completing the course, the student should be able to identify the maker of most wood movements; properly clean wood movements; create tools needed to repair wood movements; make and install wood bushings in an unobtrusive manner; repair or replace pivots in wood wheels; replace missing wheel teeth; construct wheel and pinion replacements when necessary; and adjust the escapement for proper function.
